This tool – made with Looker Studio – helps analysts and marketers to create a Google Analytics heatmap of days of week by hours.
Regularly, we need this kind of visualization to identify the time slots when there is concentration of traffic, engagements or conversions.

We don’t need necessarily to include this data viz in a report, but at least, get a tool to generate it on demand: This is the purpose this free-to-use tool, taking advantage of the GA4 data control from Looker Studio.

Settings: Your GA4 data & how to display them
This first tool section allows you to configure the minimum substance to generate our GA4 heatmap with the following fields:
- Your Google Analytics Property: Your GA4 property and its related data are available and loaded only for you, regarding your GA current access
- A date range with the classic Looker Studio date picker
- A metric to display as part of 10 traffic, engagement and conversions proposed options : Total users, Sessions, Views, Event count, Engagement rate, Views per session, Engaged sessions, Key events, Transactions and Purchase revenue
- The first day of week regarding your location and your business
- The color you prefer to generate the heat gradient of the data visualization: Red, Orange, Green, Blue, Purple or Black

Data visualization
The main part of this tool is the data visualization. It displays the GA4 heatmap with the values and color gradients by hours and days of week.
You will also find 2 subtle bar charts for the daily trends (vertical bars) & the hourly trends (horizontal bars).
At last, a summary title at the top and the hostname in the footer provide some context.

Filters: Refine your GA4 data for your analysis
Through this tool section, you can filter the report by:
- Excluding irrelevant hours or days for your analysis
- Hiding excluded hours to reduce the viz height
- Filtering by countries, device categories or event names
- Focusing a part of the traffic sources with the 4 main related dimensions: Session default channel group, Session medium, Session source and Session campaign
